Starmer Says He Won’t Walk Away, He’s Right, He Won’t Get The Chance

He’s Gone; the Only Question Is Who Among the Labour Faithful Will Take Him Out of the Game?

Keir Starmer says he’s not going anywhere. Fair enough, because if these local election results are anything to go by, he’s toast and as far as his political career is concerned he has nowhere left to go, except out the famous Number 10 door.

The seismic political rumbling just below ground in the UK has begun to erupt, and it’s happening in real time. Reform UK are no longer a protest party sitting on the sidelines shouting at the establishment. They are now taking seats, hundreds of them, thousands of votes, ripping chunks out of Labour support in places Starmer thought were safely tucked away in the red column for good.

Public Anger

Labour may still talk about “steady progress” and “long term change”, but voters have sent a very different message. The public are fed up with higher taxes, failing services, weak leadership and endless excuses. In town after town, ward after ward, Reform UK are becoming the vehicle for that anger.

Nigel Farage has done what the Westminster class said could never be done, he has turned Reform UK into a genuine electoral threat. Not just to the Conservatives, but increasingly to Labour as well. That is what has Labour MPs rattled.

Behind closed doors, the knives will already be out for Starmer. The local elections were supposed to calm nerves after months of dire polling and public frustration. Instead, they have turbocharged the panic.

The Runners and Riders!

Angela Rayner will fancy her chances, never knowingly shy about putting herself front and centre. Wes Streeting has supporters who see him as the “safe pair of hands”, although many voters would struggle to tell you what he actually stands for. Then there is the possibility of a dark horse emerging from the shadows if Labour MPs decide the current front bench is too damaged to recover.

The Stench of Blood is in the Westminster Air

Starmer can repeat that he will fight on all he likes, but politics is brutal. Leaders are only “safe” until their followers refuse to take orders and that moment has arrived. Knowing the Labour Party it’ll be a long and drawn-out coupe, but if there is any true leader waiting in the wings Starmer could be out by Monday.

I said when Labour got into power that I would not return to the UK until they were out of office and Nigel Farage was walking into Downing Street. At this rate, my exile may be coming to an end in a couple of years, or maybe even sooner.

However long it takes Labour’s cumbersome internal machinery to grind their boss out of office the stench of blood is in the Westminster air!
